If your church receives updates from a National Change of Address (NCOA) service, the changes can be uploaded in bulk. Follow the steps below to update the addresses.
If the addresses you supply the service are invalid, you may not receive the updates you desire. So, before submitting addresses to the service, make sure you validate them using Administration > Batch Action: Validate Address for a Tag/Query.
Need help getting started?
If you have never before used an NCOA service, you can of course research the options based on your criteria. We certainly encourage you to do that. To help you get started, one service to check out is TrueNCOA. We are not affiliated with them in any way, but they have been recommended to us.
When you receive updates from your selected NCOA service, follow these steps:
- Step 1 - Format the updates in a spreadsheet
The Submitted Address does not need to be included in the spreadsheet; only the Updated Address information. The spreadsheet must have the column headers shown in the image below.
Download the Excel template.
- Step 2 - Copy the data
Select all the data, including the headers, and copy it.
- Step 3 - Paste into the Upload Address page
Go to Administration > Batch Actions: Upload Addresses and paste the data into the entry box. Then click the Submit button.
The addresses will be updated, the changes will be recorded on the System > Changes tab, and for each record the MoveEffectiveDate will be added to an extra value with the same name.
