Search Box
==========

Finding the right people and Involvements is vital.
Therefore, we have robust search mechanisms
built into TouchPoint.

    Search
     The Search box in the header works like Google search.
     You enter some data and we search both
     **People** and **Involvements** to return any matching results.

     We also have other options available from this search box:

     - Find Person page
     - Involvement Search page
     - Search Builder

How Does Search Work?
---------------------

As you begin to type, after two characters,
a list will begin to populate with matches.
Do not click Enter or Return.
Select the one you want when it appears in the list.

It searches for the following:

-  Last Name - all or partial
-  Last Name, a comma and part or all of a First Name
-  Partial First a space and Last Name
-  First Name or Partial First Name
-  A People ID #
-  An Involvement ID #
-  If the ID # entered matches both a person and an Involvement, both
   will be displayed.

.. tip::
    You can search using a Maiden Name or an Alt Name
    just as you would a Last Name.
    Also, Chinese churches can search using
    **Chinese characters** in any of the name fields.

The list will be populated with as many as 6 different people
matches and 4 different Involvement matches.
Involvements will be matched by the name of the Involvement
which contains the phrase you have typed in.
Also, an Involvement Leader will be matched for the Involvement, too.

If you do not see the person or Involvement you are looking for
by using the Search text box,
you will want to use either `People > Find` or `Involvements > Search / Manage`
where you can add more information to narrow your search.

.. note::

    This function requires that 2 characters
    (letters or numbers) be entered before it will begin to auto-populate.
    Therefore, to find people or Involvements whose ID number consists of only 1 digit,
    you can enter a leading zero.


.. note::

    Deceased records and Archived records will not appear in the results of a Quick Search. If you would like to search
    for those people records, you may use the Basic People Search or Search Builder.

More about Alt Name
-------------------
If you want the Alt Name to display along with the normal name in
the results list add the Admin Setting **ShowAltNameOnSearchResults** and
set the value as **true**.

If you want to search by part of the Alt Name with Chinese characters
without always using the first character add the Admin Setting
**UseAltNameContains** and set the value as **true**.
