Contribution Amount With Both Joint Since Setting¶

This Condition, located on the Contributions category tab in Search Builder, allows you to find people based on the total amount they have given (including gifts they gave jointly with a spouse) since a start date that is stored in a System Setting.

Instead of typing a fixed date, you enter the name of a Setting that holds the start date. This is useful when the start date changes over time (for example, the beginning of the current fiscal year) and you do not want to edit the search each time.

How to Use It¶

In the Setting Name (with start date) field, enter the name of the Setting that contains the start date. You may optionally follow the Setting name with a comma and a Fund Id to limit the total to a single fund (for example, FiscalYearStart, 12). Leave the fund off to include all funds.

Then select a Comparison (such as Greater Equal) and enter the dollar amount in the value field. The search totals each person’s contributions (both individual and joint gifts) from the Setting’s start date through today and compares that total to the amount you entered.

Where the Setting Comes From¶

There is no built-in Setting dedicated to this Condition, so in most cases your System Admin will create a Setting of their own to hold the start date, on the Admin > Advanced > Settings page. The Setting’s value must be a date, which becomes the start date of the giving total. You may also point the Condition at any existing Setting whose value already happens to be a date you want to use.

Example

Suppose your Admin creates a Setting named FiscalYearStart with the value 1/1/2026. To find everyone who has given at least $500 to all funds since that date, enter FiscalYearStart in the Setting Name (with start date) field, choose the Greater Equal Comparison, and enter 500 for the amount.

To limit the total to Fund 12 only, enter FiscalYearStart, 12 instead.

Note

Because the start date lives in the Setting, you only have to update the Setting’s date once each year and every saved search that references it automatically uses the new date. See Administrative Settings for how to add or edit Settings.

Important

You must have the Finance role to get results from any Condition on the Contributions tab that relates to actual contribution amounts. Without the Finance role, this Condition returns no results.
